[PROBLEMS] To establish a technique for industrially producing a polyalkylene carbonate in which a polymer can be handled during production without causing any environmental or sanitary problems in the reaction of carbon dioxide and epoxide. A method for producing polyalkylene carbonate by a solution polymerization method in which carbon dioxide and an epoxide are reacted in the presence of a carbonate-based solvent or an ether-based solvent, and the use of a zinc-containing catalyst is preferred. It is preferable to use a solvent that dissolves 5% by weight or more of alkylene carbonate at a temperature of 25 ° C. or higher, such as dimethyl carbonate, methyl ethyl carbonate, 1,3-dioxolane, dioxane, and the like.
