The improved battery described herein generally includes an electrolyte having lithium ions and a cathode containing submicron silver vanadium oxide particles. In some embodiments, the battery utilizes at least about 220 mAh / g when pulsed at a current density of 30 mA / cm 2 in a group of four constant energy pulses to deliver 50 joules per pulse. The possible current capacity is shown. Under the discharge up to a pulse discharge voltage of 2 V, the four pulses of the pulse train are separated by a 15-second pause, and the interval between the pulse groups is 6 days. In yet another embodiment, the battery has an average internal resistance of 0.2 ohms or less at a current density of at least about 30 mA / cm 2 . In addition, the battery has a current supply capability of at least about 0.4 amps per cubic centimeter of battery. Due to the improved discharge performance, the battery may not exhibit a large voltage delay throughout the battery life as shown in the three month accelerated discharge test. |
