titleOfInvention | Oral dosage form comprising a liquid active ingredient formulation and controlled release by an swellable osmotic composition |
abstract | The present invention provides a controlled release oral dosage form for delivery of a liquid active ingredient formulation. The dosage form of the present invention includes a reservoir molded from an impermeable material and filled with a liquid active ingredient formulation. The dosage form of the present invention also includes an inflatable osmotic composition disposed within the reservoir, and in some cases, the inflatable osmotic composition is substantially impervious to fluid passage. A barrier layer that is permeable separates the liquid active ingredient from contact with the formulation. In order to facilitate the discharge of the liquid active ingredient formulation, the dosage form of the present invention also includes an exit orifice. The composition and design of the reservoir material encompassed by the dosage form of the present invention is the production of an oral dosage form that can achieve the desired release rate or release rate profile of the active ingredient from a liquid formulation more consistently.
