Genetic analysis for stratification of cancer risk |
abstract |
The present invention provides a novel method for assessing carcinogenic risk in the general population. These methods utilize a combination of specific alleles of two or more genes to identify individuals with an increased or decreased risk of cancer. Illustrates risk assessment for female breast cancer. In addition, personal history metrics such as age and race are used to further refine the analysis. By using such methods, it is possible to reallocate the health care costs of cancer screening to a sub-population of patients at increased risk of cancer. Candidates for prophylactic treatment of cancer can also be identified. |
