abstract The present invention relates to a method for producing a recombinant, functional plasminogen in a microorganism and a method for identifying a plasminogen activator. The nucleic acid sequence encoding the functional part of the plasminogen is fused with a nucleic acid molecule encoding at least one signal peptide. The nucleic acid molecule encoding the plasminogen and the nucleic acid molecule encoding the signal peptide are linked together with a codon for contacting a proteolytic enzyme that cleaves the signal peptide. The recombinant plasminogen, or the corresponding plasmin, is suitable for the treatment of wounds that are slow or unhealed by the use of the enzyme in an appropriate composition.
