The present invention relates to a nucleic acid target-specific chimeric protein comprising a nuclear membrane and / or a nuclear lamina binding domain and a DNA binding domain. These proteins can be used in methods to repress or down-regulate the expression of selected genes, as well as nucleic acids encoding those proteins. The DNA binding domain is preferably derived from naturally occurring zinc finger proteins (ZFPs) or artificial zinc finger proteins (AZPs). A molecular switch system for gene regulation is also provided. |
