abstract |
A ketolase gene was isolated from Rhodococcus erythropolis strain AN12 encoding a carotenoid modifying enzyme of the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway. The gene and gene product were first isolated from a Rhodococcus strain. Six conserved amino acid motifs have been identified that are characteristic of this type of ketolase enzyme. The genes and gene products of the present invention can be used in various ways for the production of keto-carotenoid compounds in various organisms. |
