A ribavirin-containing liquid formulation with a longer shelf life and improved taste is disclosed. The liquid formulation of the present invention comprises ribavirin, a buffered system, at least one pharmaceutically acceptable sweetener, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable thickener, wherein the liquid formulation The pH is in the range of about 4.8 to about 5.3. The formulations of the present invention can be pharmaceutically acceptable syrup formulations.
