abstract | A method for classifying a transmitted spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) strain in an infected animal, comprising the following steps: a) isolating a sample of an abnormal prion protein based on molecular weight and / or sugar form ratio, B) detecting the presence of a peptide sequence in the sample, wherein the peptide sequence in the aberrant prion protein can distinguish a particular strain of TSE from other strains. And c) using the results of steps a) and b) to determine the type of TSE strain present in the sample. The above method can be used specifically to distinguish BSE from scrapie in sheep. |
