titleOfInvention | Low particle bisphenol production method and use in polycarbonate production |
abstract | A process for producing a low particle content divalent aromatic compound, such as bisphenol A, which can be used in the synthesis of a low particle content polycarbonate, wherein a desorption column containing a non-agglomerated filler is added to a bisphenol compound and phenol adduct and, if desired, Introduce stripping gas. The adduct is distilled while maintaining a sufficiently high operating temperature range and a sufficiently low column operating pressure for the desorption column. A stream of phenol and stripping gas is recovered from the top of the column. A bisphenol-containing second stream substantially free of additional particulates is recovered from the bottom of the column. This purified stream of bisphenol A can then be used in a process for producing optical grade polycarbonate. [Selection] Figure 2 |
