abstract | The present invention relates to a β-carotene biosynthesis gene of Blakeslea trispora encoding lycopene cyclase / phytoene synthase (carRP) and phytoene dehydrogenase (carB). The carRP gene characterized by the DNA sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 encodes the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 3 having lycopene cyclase / phytoene synthase activity. The carB gene, characterized by the DNA sequence SEQ ID NO: 2, encodes the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 4 having phytoene dehydrogenase activity. The present invention also relates to (i) a method for constructing a plasmid for expressing an additional copy of the gene and (ii) a method for expressing a heterologous gene under the control of the promoter of the gene. |
