titleOfInvention | Copolyether composition and method for producing and using the same |
abstract | Copolyether compositions that can be used to produce dyeable polyesters are provided. The composition can include repeat units derived from a first diol, such as 1,3-propanediol, and a sulfonated dicarboxylic acid, such as 5-sulfo-isophthalic acid. The dyeable polyester composition can comprise repeating units derived from a copolyether composition, an acid such as terephthalic acid, and a second diol such as 1,3-propanediol. Also disclosed are methods that can be used to produce the copolyether composition. The method includes contacting a first diol with a sulfonated dicarboxylic acid. Further disclosed is a method that can be used to produce a dyeable composition, which comprises (1) a diol such as 1,3-propanediol and a dicarboxylic acid ester such as dimethyl terephthalate. And contacting the copolyether composition in the presence of a catalyst, or (2) contacting an acid such as terephthalic acid with a diol such as 1,3-propanediol to form an intermediate. And then contacting the intermediate with the copolyether. |
