abstract | A polycarbonate is produced by melt polycondensation of a dihydroxy compound and a diaryl carbonate compound in the presence of an alkali catalyst. A branching inhibitor compound is added to an intermediate polycarbonate produced by a melt polycondensation reaction in an amount effective to suppress or prevent the formation of branching species during the final treatment in the subsequent stage. Addition of a branching inhibitor compound to the melt polycondensation reaction product reduces branching species and produces a final polycarbonate with high ductility and impact strength. |
