The present invention provides a biological dressing for the treatment of skin diseases comprising a rubber resin, a locally acceptable volatile solvent, and a pharmacologically active substance. Since the rubber resin is contained in an appropriate amount, the composition dries when the solvent evaporates, forming a solid coating that adheres to the skin or mucous membrane to which the composition is applied, and the skin or mucous membrane site exhibiting disease symptoms The pharmacologically active substance is maintained upon contact over a sustained period of time. Also provided are methods of treating skin disease symptoms using this pharmacological composition. Biological bandages, including benzoin and clotrimazole tinctures, have been shown to be effective in alleviating the symptoms of psoriatic tinea. |
