abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily clean a foreign matter adhering to a contact portion of a cleaning blade without trouble. A cleaning device includes a brush roller that rotates by bringing a brush into contact with an outer peripheral surface of an image carrier, and a cleaning blade having a contact portion a contacted with the outer peripheral surface of the image carrier. 24, the outer peripheral surface of the image carrier 5 is cleaned. When the cleaning blade 24 is moved by the contact / separation mechanism 26 to a separation position where the contact portion 24 a is separated from the image carrier 5, the contact portion 24 a is moved to a position where the brush roller 23 contacts the brush 23, and thus rotates. The brush 23b of the brush roller 23 can remove the foreign matter adhering to the contact portion 24a by interfering with the contact portion 24a, and the contact portion 24a can be easily cleaned without trouble.
