PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing an aqueous resin dispersion containing a fatty acid component having good film forming properties and water resistance. A monomer mixture (I) comprising a fatty acid-modified polymerizable unsaturated monomer (A) and another polymerizable unsaturated monomer (B) copolymerizable with the monomer (A) is averaged in an aqueous medium. A monomer component (II) containing a polymerizable unsaturated monomer (C) is added to the dispersion obtained by finely dispersing the emulsion so that the diameter is 500 nm or less and polymerizing the resulting emulsion, and further polymerized.
