abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MRI compatible biopsy device that assists in tissue insertion to improve the arrangement of sampling openings of an MRI compatible insertion portion and facilitates other treatment steps using the insertion portion. A positioning mechanism or jig is used with a breast compression breast coil to guide a needle biopsy instrument during prone biopsy procedures in both open and closed MRI devices. The positioning jig includes a three-dimensional Cartesian positioning guide for supporting and orienting an MRI compatible biopsy instrument, specifically a sleeve, against a biopsy site of suspected tissue or lesion. The depth stopper can improve the insertion accuracy and prevent excessive insertion or erroneous pullback of the sleeve. The sleeve receives the probe of the MRI compatible biopsy instrument and can include various functions such as improved imaging, improved pressure and vacuum through the interior, and placement of markers.
