abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress bubbles and reduce manufacturing loss in manufacturing a preform. A raw material for an inner core is injected into a clad having an outer core formed on the inner surface, and the clad is loaded into a polymerization vessel. The polymerization vessel 38 is set in the rotation polymerization apparatus 41 so as to rotate in a substantially horizontal state. The outer core is a polymer formed by radical polymerization. A radical polymerization initiator and a chain transfer agent are added to the outer core and the inner core raw material, and the inner core monomer is a radical polymerizable compound. While the polymerization vessel 38 is rotated, the reaction between the inner core monomer and the outer core and the polymerization reaction of the inner core monomer are performed. In the obtained plastic optical fiber preform, a core is generated on the entire inner surface of the clad, no bubbles are generated, and the entire length can be made POF by stretching.
