A urethane resin having a carboxyl group in the molecule on the surface of the steel sheet containing 9% by mass, the acid value of which is 40 to 90, and the urethane bond content is 12 to 20% by weight in terms of isocyanate group (NCO). A method for producing a medium / high carbon steel sheet excellent in press formability and mold life, wherein a resin film is formed on the steel sheet surface in an amount of 0.2 to 10 μm.
