PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide surface-modified titanium dioxide fine particles having excellent dispersibility in a neutral aqueous solvent and having stable dispersibility even in a wide pH range, a dispersion thereof, and a production method thereof. SOLUTION: By chemically modifying titanium dioxide and a carboxyl group of a hydrophilic polymer with an ester bond, it is excellent in dispersibility and stability in an aqueous solvent in a wide pH range as well as near neutrality. Surface-modified titanium dioxide fine particles and dispersions thereof are obtained. Moreover, the method for producing the surface-modified titanium dioxide fine particles of the present invention comprises mixing a titanium dioxide particle dispersion of 2 to 200 nm and a water-soluble polymer solution, and heating them at 80 to 220 ° C. to ester bond them. It is characterized by purifying surface-modified titanium dioxide fine particles by removing unbound water-soluble polymer. [Selection figure] None |
