The object of the present invention is to provide a use for the treatment of diseases characterized by the expression or overexpression of Aurora protein, in particular cancer. The present invention provides a novel alternative splice variant polypeptide of Aurora protein C, its encoding nucleic acid, a variant of the polypeptide, and an antibody that specifically binds to the polypeptide. The present invention also provides a pharmaceutical composition comprising a variant of the polypeptide, an expression vector for the variant of the polypeptide, and an antibody that specifically binds to the polypeptide.
