titleOfInvention Method for supercritical methylation of aromatic compounds
abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a dimethyl aromatic compound with good regioselectivity by methylation of an aromatic compound in the presence of a solid acid catalyst having mesopores which are crystallized and refined in a carbon material such as carbon black and have a long lifetime. . SOLUTION: Using naphthalene or 2-methylnaphthalene as a raw material, the major axis of the pore diameter is in the range of 0.58 to 0.68 nm, and it is crystallized and refined in a carbon structure such as carbon black, thereby extending the life. When 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene is produced by reacting a methylating agent comprising methanol or dimethyl ether in the presence of a solid acid catalyst having mesopores, the reaction temperature is in the range of 300 to 450 ° C. The reaction is carried out under conditions where the pressure is in the range of 0.2 to 6.5 times the critical pressure of the methylating agent and the methylating agent is in a subcritical or supercritical state.
