titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for adjusting valence of dissolved ions in molten chloride salt
abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a valence of dissolved ions that can take a plurality of valences in a molten chloride salt, without supplying a reagent or gas that becomes an oxidizing agent or a reducing agent in the molten chloride salt, There is no turbidity of the molten salt due to dissolution of the electrode material in the molten chloride salt, and there is no ion contamination other than dissolved ions, so that the dissolved ions can be efficiently oxidized or reduced. A method and apparatus capable of performing valence adjustment is provided. SOLUTION: A working electrode 1 is immersed in a molten chloride salt 3 containing dissolved ions that can have a plurality of valences through a diaphragm 4a made of a high-temperature conductive material, and a diaphragm 4b made of a high-temperature conductive material. The counter electrode 2 is immersed through the electrode, and a DC voltage is applied between the working electrode and the counter electrode for electrolysis to oxidize or reduce dissolved ions to adjust the valence. By providing the reference electrode 5 and performing electrolysis while controlling the potential difference between the reference electrode and the working electrode, more accurate valence adjustment can be performed.
