abstract [Objective] To provide a method for producing a polyvinyl alcohol film excellent in optical performance without film thickness uniformity and optical color unevenness, particularly a polyvinyl alcohol film useful as an original film of a polarizing film. In forming a film by casting a stock solution containing a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin on a drum-type roll heated through a die, the drum is heated at 70 to 100 ° C. under a condition of 3 ° C./hr or less. A method for producing a polyvinyl alcohol film, in which casting is started after the temperature is raised to a range, and further, after the temperature is raised, the temperature unevenness on the surface of the drum-type roll is set to 2 ° C. or less.
