A method and system for improved x-ray image data collection using a digital x-ray detector. 810, defining a group of scan lines at a detector, associating a data line of the detector with a group of scan lines 820, and reading 850 from the group of scan lines using the associated data line. A scan line is connected to a plurality of pixels, and a region of interest can be defined in the detector. The pixel acquires image data related to the region of interest. Image data can be read from at least one scan line of each group of scan lines using associated data lines. Alternatively, image data can be read from alternating groups of scan lines using the associated data lines.
