abstract A method for disinfecting contact lenses with an eye-safe disinfectant solution is provided. A method of cleaning / disinfecting a soft contact lens comprising the following steps: (a) rubbing the contact lens with an eye-safe solution containing the following components (i) to (iii) ((i ) A sterilizing effective amount of the hydrochloride salt of bis (biguanide) in an amount of about 2.0 to about 8.0 ppm having the following formula or a corresponding molar amount of another water-soluble salt or free base form of bis ( Biguanide): (Ii) an effective amount of buffer; (iii) an effective amount of surfactant); and (b) the contact lens scraped in step (a) is immersed in the solution for a total time of about 5 to about 75 minutes. Steps that do not require soaking beyond a minimum soak time of 75 minutes; and (c) place the treated lens directly on the wearer's eye and do not require rinsing with a different solution. .
