titleOfInvention Display element
abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element excellent in high-speed response and viewing angle characteristics without lowering contrast. A display element according to the present invention includes a pair of substrates 1 and 2 at least one of which is transparent and a medium that is sandwiched between the pair of substrates 1 and 2 and whose optical anisotropy is changed by application of an electric field. Medium layer 3 and polarizing plates 6 and 7 arranged on the opposite side of the pair of substrates 1 and 2 to the surface facing the medium layer 3 of at least one substrate 1. Further, a horizontal alignment treatment in a direction parallel to or perpendicular to the polarizing plate absorption axis of any of the polarizing plates 6 and 7 on the surface of the substrate 1 or 2 facing the other substrate 2 in at least one of the substrates 1. Alternatively, a vertical alignment process is performed. [Selection] Figure 1
