abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument or implant for repairing or regenerating damaged or diseased fibrocartilage and a method for manufacturing such an instrument. An implantable tissue repair device (10) has a cover (12) and a tissue regeneration material (14). The cover has a top panel (16) and a bottom panel (18) with tissue regeneration material disposed therebetween. The cover has a continuous sheet of biocompatible material that extends across the leading edge and into the top and bottom panels. The cover is thicker along the leading edge than at least a portion of the top panel and thicker than at least a portion thereof. At least a portion of one of the panels covering the tissue regeneration material is thicker than a portion of the other panel. A method of manufacturing a surgical instrument is also provided.
