titleOfInvention Production of S-form 1,2-propanediol by using microorganisms
abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce high optical purity S-isomer 1,2-propanediol from a mixture of enantiomers of 1,2-propanediol by using a microorganism, by an inexpensive and technically simple method. SOLUTION: A microorganism belonging to the genus Acetobacter and capable of growing using R-form 1,2-propanediol as a single carbon source or a cultured cell thereof, and an enantiomeric mixture of 1,2-propanediol as a single carbon source. In the culture medium, R-isomer 1,2-propanediol is assimilated and decomposed, and the remaining S-isomer 1,2-propanediol is fractionated from the culture solution, or belongs to the genus Acetobacter, A microorganism having an ability to act on an enantiomeric mixture of 1,2-propanediol and leaving S-form 1,2-propanediol, a cultured cell, or a treated product thereof is allowed to act on the enantiomeric mixture of 1,2-propanediol. The remaining S-form 1,2-propanediol is fractionated. [Selection figure] None
