abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proton conductive polymer membrane having excellent characteristics useful as a polymer electrolyte membrane of a solid polymer fuel cell or a direct methanol fuel cell, and a stable and inexpensive production method thereof. SOLUTION: After a polymer film is swollen in a swelling organic solvent and then immersed in a reaction organic solvent containing a sulfonating agent, compared with the same sulfonation conditions, Proton conductivity in the direction of film thickness is greater in the sulfonated polymer membrane using polymer film, and the proton conductivity equivalent to the conventional one with less amount of sulfonating agent and shorter reaction time.
