An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing organic solvent-dispersed metal oxide particles having excellent dispersion stability in a nonpolar organic solvent. A metal alkoxy compound and the following general formula (1) R n SiX 4-n (1) (In the formula, R represents a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, X represents an alkoxyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a chlorine atom, and n represents a number of 1 or 2). A silane compound represented by the formula is added to a mixed solvent containing 100 parts by mass of a water-soluble organic solvent, 50 to 300 parts by mass of a nonpolar organic solvent and 0.1 to 35 parts by mass of water, and subjected to hydrolysis and condensation reaction.
