Disclosed is a metal oxide particle having excellent dispersion stability in a nonpolar solvent. A metal oxide particle characterized in that at least two kinds of hydrophobic groups of different types are chemically bonded to the surface of the metal oxide particle main body via a metal atom. One of the hydrophobic groups is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, preferably an alkyl group having an unsubstituted or non-reactive substituent, more preferably a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms. The other one is an aromatic hydrocarbon group, preferably an aryl group having an unsubstituted or non-reactive substituent, and more preferably a phenyl group having an unsubstituted or non-reactive substituent.
