abstract | An α-olefin low polymer such as 1-hexene can be produced with high yield and high selectivity, and in particular, obtained by removing a catalyst component such as a chromium compound contained in a reaction solution. Provided is a method for producing an α-olefin low polymer with a highly purified α-olefin low polymer. In a method for producing an α-olefin low polymer using a chromium catalyst, a catalyst system comprising at least a combination of a chromium compound and an amine or a metal amide and an alkylaluminum compound is used as a chromium catalyst, and a solvent is used. Then, α-olefin is subjected to low polymerization, and then the reaction solution containing the catalyst component is brought into contact with an aqueous alkali solution to remove the catalyst component.
