SOLUTION: The cyclic olefin addition copolymer of the present invention contains 70 to 98 mol% of a structural unit (a) derived from bicyclo [2.2.1] hept-2-ene and has a methoxysilyl group. A copolymer containing 2 to 20 mol% of the structural unit (b) derived from the cyclic olefin compound, which has a number average molecular weight of 30,000 to 300,000 and is soluble in toluene and cyclohexane at 25 ° C. [Effects] According to the present invention, a specific cyclic olefin compound having a methoxysilyl group, which is excellent in optical transparency and heat resistance, has a small linear expansion coefficient, and is used as a material suitable for sheets and films for optical materials. A cyclic olefin copolymer in which the structural unit (a) derived from and the structural unit (b) derived from another cyclic olefin compound are randomly arranged with a homogeneous composition distribution and a cyclic olefin copolymer obtained by crosslinking the cyclic olefin copolymer.
