titleOfInvention Inflatable medical device, method of processing an inflatable medical device, and method of constructing an inflatable medical device
abstract Disclosed is an inflatable medical device with little radial recoil and high radial force (high circumferential squeezing strength) regardless of the inherent properties of the material being manufactured. In accordance with the present invention, there are a plurality of elongate beams joined together to form a generally cylindrical device that is inflatable from a cylinder having a first diameter to a cylinder having a second diameter. An inflatable medical device is provided. The plurality of hinges connecting the elongated beams have a hinge width that is narrower than the beam width. A nail is disposed adjacent to the hinge, the nail being substantially parallel to the hinge prior to expansion of the medical device, and a plurality of teeth receiving the nail. The present invention further provides the advantage of limiting the amount of recoil of the inflatable device by engaging the locking mechanism, thereby preserving the inflated diameter of the device.
