An easy, short-time and low-cost method for producing a lithium-containing material is provided. Moreover, the manufacturing method of the nonaqueous electrolyte electrochemical cell which shows the big discharge capacity and favorable high-rate discharge performance using the lithium containing material obtained by the manufacturing method as an active material is provided. [Solution] One aspect of the present invention is a method for producing a lithium-containing material, in which a lithium metal and a polycyclic aromatic compound are dissolved in a chain monoether, a transition metal of a long-period periodic table, a group 13 metal, a group 14 A material containing at least one element selected from a metal and a group 15 metal is brought into contact with the material, and lithium is occluded in the material. Furthermore, one of the present invention is characterized in that an electrode containing a lithium-containing substance obtained by this method is used in a method for producing a non-aqueous electrolyte electrochemical cell.
