abstract An apparatus and method for measuring the mass of odor molecules and the like are provided. A mass measuring apparatus includes a vibrator, drive means for exciting fundamental vibration in the vibrator, detection means for measuring vibration displacement of the vibrator, and an object. An adsorption film 5 having a substance adsorption capability is provided. The mass is measured based on the difference between the detected value of the vibration displacement from the detection means 4A, 4B at the time of non-measurement and the detected value of the vibration displacement from the detection means 4A, 4B at the time of measurement.
