abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide an olefin polymerization catalyst in which the activity of the resulting modified clay is further improved without degrading the activity even when calcination is performed at a high temperature in the modification treatment of the clay mineral used as a promoter component of the olefin polymerization catalyst. A cocatalyst component, a catalyst for olefin polymerization using the same, and a method for polymerizing olefins using them. SOLUTION: [a-1] step of chemically treating clay mineral or ion-exchangeable layered compound, [a-2] step, [a-2] step of firing solid material obtained in [a-1] In the step [a-1] to [a-3] of the step [a-3] where the basic compound is brought into contact with the solid material obtained in step 1, the activity is lowered even when a high-temperature baking treatment is performed. Thus, a promoter component of the olefin polymerization catalyst that can be prevented and further activated can be obtained, and a highly active olefin polymerization catalyst can be obtained using the same.
