A carbon nanotube structure, a method for manufacturing the carbon nanotube structure, a field emission device and a display device to which the carbon nanotube structure is applied. SOLUTION: A primary carbon nanotube is grown on a substrate on which a catalyst material layer is formed, and a secondary carbon nanotube is formed on the surface of the primary carbon nanotube using a catalyst material present on the surface of the carbon nanotube after the primary growth. This is a method for producing carbon nanotubes to be grown. As described above, the secondary carbon nanotube having a small diameter grown on the side surface of the primary carbon nanotube emits electrons even under a low voltage. Moreover, a high electron emission current can be obtained by increasing the number of secondary carbon nanotubes having a small diameter, that is, an electron emission source, and uniform field emission characteristics can be obtained through the diameter of the primary carbon nanotubes formed with a uniform distribution.
