abstract | A variable valve operating apparatus for an internal combustion engine capable of exhibiting a significant friction reducing effect is provided. A drive shaft, a control shaft arranged in parallel with the drive shaft, a rocker arm having a part of the control shaft as a support point, and a rocker arm by a driving force from the drive shaft. An arm driving mechanism for driving, a driving force transmission mechanism for transmitting the operation of the rocker arm 4 to the valve 9, and an output shaft 14 a and a worm 15 attached to the output shaft 14 a are engaged with a worm wheel 13 attached to the control shaft 3. In addition, a control motor 14 that changes the lift amount of the valve 9 by changing the rotation angle of the control shaft 3 is provided, and the worm 15 on the control motor 14 side that slides while meshing in the presence of lubricating oil and the control shaft 3 side.
