titleOfInvention | Method and apparatus for accelerating wound healing in chest anastomosis applications |
abstract | Systems and methods for removing air trapped in emphysema lungs are provided. A long-term oxygen therapy system having oxygen supply means coupled to the lung treats hypoxia due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The system includes an oxygen source, a valve and a conduit 104 for fluid delivery. Fluid delivery conduits connect the oxygen source 102 to the lung sites. A collateral ventilation bypass trap system connected to the lungs increases exhalation from the lungs and treats another situation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The system includes a trap, a filter / check valve and a conduit for air conveyance. The system can be intrathoracic, extrathoracic, or a combination thereof. Lung decompressors also remove air trapped in the lungs and reduce the volume of diseased lung tissue. The lung reduction device can passively decompress the lungs. The system requires an airtight seal between the parietal and pulmonary pleura. Chemical pleurodesis is used to form a seal, accelerating healing of the chest anastomosis wound.
