titleOfInvention | Production of transgenic plants with ability to accumulate heavy metals such as mercury, and purification method of heavy metal contaminated soil using the plants |
abstract | To produce a transgenic plant imparted with an ability to accumulate heavy metals such as mercury. And to provide new phytoremediation using the plant for the purification of soil contaminated with heavy metals. A recombinant tobacco in which a ppk gene encoding a polyphosphate synthase is integrated into a genome has been produced. This ppk transgenic tobacco highly expresses polyphosphate synthase and increases the amount of polyphosphate synthesis. As a result, heavy metal such as mercury can be highly accumulated in plants as a chelate of polyphosphate, resulting in heavy metal contamination. Useful for soil purification and restoration.
