A high temperature resistant proton exchange membrane is provided. The proton exchanger is a group consisting of 1-methylimidazole, 4-methylimidazole, 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole, 1-methylpyrazole, 1,2,4-triazole, and 5-methyl-benzimidazole. It has an ionic liquid obtained by an acid-base reaction between a basic substance which is one or more compounds selected from the above and an organic acid. It is possible to provide a proton exchanger made of an ionic liquid that exhibits high proton conductivity without depending on the presence of water and is stable and can be suitably used as a proton exchanger for a fuel cell.
