abstract The present invention provides an esterified hyaluronic acid derivative having a lower viscosity reduction from hyaluronic acid or a salt thereof as a reaction substrate by making the reaction conditions for producing a hyaluronic acid derivative milder. SOLUTION: Hyaluronic acid or a salt thereof and an esterified hyaluronic acid or a salt thereof obtained by binding a lower alcohol or an organopolysiloxane with a condensing agent represented by the formula (1). In the formula (1), X is one selected from the group consisting of F, Cl, Br and I, and Y is selected from the group consisting of Cl, Br, I, BF 4 and p-toluenesulfonate.
