abstract The present invention provides a method for treating fresh water or brackish water that can be sterilized with high efficiency while continuing a membrane separation treatment, and has a small increase in differential pressure between modules even when continuously operated for a long period of time. SOLUTION: A normal treatment process in which fresh water or brine is supplied as raw water to a separation membrane to perform membrane separation treatment, sodium bisulfite is added to the raw water and the raw water is further acidified, and the raw water is supplied to the separation membrane.
