An object of the present invention is to improve the warm-up performance until a catalyst reaches an activation temperature when the engine is started. In an exhaust gas purifying catalyst comprising a carrier substrate, a catalyst carrier layer formed on the carrier substrate, and a noble metal catalyst supported on the catalyst carrier layer, the catalyst carrier layer includes at least two layers. Of these at least two layers, the lower layer on the support substrate side is a metal oxide layer having a porosity of 40 to 75%, and the uppermost layer on the outermost surface side has a thermal conductivity of 5 W / mK or less.
