abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transdermal drug delivery system which does not receive substantial loss of a low molecular weight drug which is liquid at room temperature or near room temperature during production of the transdermal system. Disclosed is a transdermal composition comprising an admixture of one or more polymers, at least one of which is a low molecular weight and one or more drugs that are liquid at room temperature or near room temperature. The composition is substantially free of water and (a) optionally having a normal boiling point above the processing temperature and (b) above the low molecular weight drug. The composition is not subject to substantial loss of low molecular weight drugs upon production of the transdermal system. Also disclosed is a transdermal composition having a polymer matrix that includes one or more drugs, at least one of which is a low molecular weight, liquid at room temperature or near room temperature, and one or more high shear resistance polymers. This high shear resistance polymer reduces the plasticizing effect of low molecular weight drugs and has sufficient tack and shear forces for human application. [Selection figure] None |
