titleOfInvention Exhaust gas purification device for internal combustion engine and method for detecting deterioration of exhaust gas purification catalyst
abstract An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for an internal combustion engine and a method for detecting the deterioration of an exhaust gas purifying catalyst capable of accurately determining the deterioration of a NOx storage catalyst. When the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas is lowered, the exhaust gas temperature on the downstream side of the NOx storage catalyst 14 is once lowered, maintained at a substantially constant temperature while being lowered for a while, and then started to rise. In the case of the deteriorated NOx storage catalyst 14, a phenomenon is observed in which the required time ΔT from the time point P 0 when the oxygen concentration decreases to the time point P 1 when the exhaust gas temperature starts to rise is shorter than that of the new NOx storage catalyst 14. Using this phenomenon, the exhaust gas temperature after the oxygen concentration is lowered by the exhaust gas temperature sensor 16 provided on the downstream side of the NOx storage catalyst 14 is measured every predetermined time, and the required time until the exhaust gas temperature starts to rise. By measuring the time ΔT, it is possible to grasp the deterioration state of the NOx storage catalyst 14 and accurately determine the deterioration of the NOx storage catalyst 14.
