abstract | Disclosed is an optical film used for a protective film for a polarizing plate of a liquid crystal image display device (LCD), which can prevent disturbance of the end of a casting ribbon (ribbon-like resin solution) during dope casting. An optical film manufacturing method that can manufacture an optical film with excellent flatness at high speed is provided. The optical film manufacturing method has a maximum film thickness of D 1 μm at the end (side end) within 30 mm from the left and right side edges of the optical film, and the inner side of these side ends (film center side). When the maximum film thickness is D 2 μm, 0.8 × D 2 + 25 ≧ D 1 ≧ 0.88 × D 2 +10 The film thicknesses of the end portions within 30 mm from the left and right side edges of the dope film cast from the casting die onto the support are adjusted so that the following relational expression is satisfied.
