abstract To provide a liquid crystal display element with high definition and improved viewing angle, and to realize them, in combination with an array substrate with a color filter having a color filter on an array such as a TFT substrate. It is an object of the present invention to provide a counter substrate with a phase difference control layer suitable for use. A liquid crystal layer 30 is used as a common electrode substrate 20, and a substrate (1) 21, a phase difference control layer 22, and a common electrode 23 are stacked, and an array such as a TFT is formed on the substrate (2) 42. By interposing the liquid crystal layer 30 between the array substrates 40 arranged, the problem could be solved. [Selection] Figure 1
